| | | Unidentified wild plant Could someone please help me to identify this bush for me. I have to get one of these in the garden, I have never seen so many different flies on one plant.
Thanks

| | | Re: Unidentified wild plant Definitely Dogwood, probably Cornus sanguinea, our native species,
but could be one of the many garden varieties.
Yes, small nectar feeders love it. |

Dai | Hi Dai
Be warned it is a thug, both in the wild and in the garden especially if your garden is on alkaline soil.
All the best

| | | Re: Unidentified wild plant Dogwood loves damp ground so if you have a bit of the garden that is, Dogwood should do well, but it will probably take over the rest of the garden in the process

Perhaps not a native? | If Sanguinea is our only native cornus it definitely isn't that. The flowers are wrong. They look to be much showier. There is a lovely cornus with large pink flowers, called Nutella as for as I can remember, but don't quote me, but if you want it for the wldlife, perhaps someone knows whether a foreigner would still support the green hairstreak butterfly?
I forgot to add cornus alba, with its two really lovely variegated forms and vivid red or yellow stems in winter. It is easy to find in garden centres.

All the best | They may invade if with far greater speed if the ground is damp or wet so be thsnkful for small mercies.
