I found this growing on the hillside above our house ,it's a beautiful little plant about 4" tall.I think it could be Mountain Sedge but I'm definately not sure.It was growing amongst course grass in a very stoney area. For identification purposes it isn't a very good photo I'm afraid ,no leaves and a bit too close up. I'll have to find the original ,if I still have it.Thanks anyone for your help,Barbara.  |

From the evidence you have posted it could well be a Mountain sedge Carex montana. Habitat and size are right. I checked this out in Roger Phillips book Grasses, Ferns, Mosses and Lichens of Great Britain and Ireland and his photograph looks remarkably like the one you have submitted.
