Pink Hawthorn Blossom

Excuse my naivety but I was always under the impression that Hawthorn blossom was always white or at least a very pale pink. There is a young tree in the hedgerow opposite my house which has very dark pink boarders to the petals which, from a distance, gives the impression of a much darker pink cluster. Is this common? I ought to get a photo to illustrate my point. I Shall try to get out tomorrow.

Thank you Kayleigh, that explains it quite succinctly. I did do a search for hawthorn but after the sixth page of results I gave up looking for something relevant. Should have been a tad more precise in my search terms but it was late and I couldn't think .

I am useless with searches, all I put in was "pink hawthorn" and 3 down was the thread...try it..
I did it as I remember a thread from a long time ago..

It could be Midland Hawthorn - Crataegus laevigata. They have pink blossom. The leaves are different from common hawthorn so check that too.
