Is this Early Purple Orchid ?
I thought this was an Early Purple Orchid but looking closer I'm wondering if it's a Marsh Orchid.

You are right to discount early purple, it is southern marsh orchid by the looks of it.

Southern Marsh Orchid it is then,thankyou .
When I went for another look today ,the whole bank is quite covered with them,very pretty.

No problem BarbaraEmma. Its quite a common plant in the right habitat, but having said that my local ones are not showing! I think its been too dry here so far.
