| | | Sycamore tree -advice on pruning needed Hi everyone,
right I need some help with this one. I have two big Sycamore Trees in my garden the biggest one of the two is shared with my neighbours garden - 90% if it is in my garden. I was trimming 2x 4inch branches (the babies) from the middle of the tree to let in more light into my garden, leaving the remaining 8x 8inch branches. My "tree hugging" neighbour came running out shouting at me, saying that its illegal to cut down this tree!! I told her I'm not cutting down the tree I'm merely trimming some of the branches to let in more light into my garden. She goes on saying that its not my tree to trim (even though 90% of it is in my garden). And the ones I removed is on my side anyway... Does she have a foot to stand on with this?? Oh and I checked, there is no TPA for this tree in this area.

If branches are overhanging your property boundry and irrespective of who actually owns the tree, you are not breaking any law and perfectly entitled to cut them off, if the tree is your neighbours, you must offer to return to them what you have removed, a TPA would mean you needed permission before removing any limbs.
By what you have said in all probability the tree is your property anyway.
Hope that helps.

| | | Re: Sycamore tree -advice on pruning needed As far as I know sycamores are considered invasive and can be freely chopped down - I once spent a weekend with an environmental group removing sycamores from native woodland.
Anything overhanging your garden boundary is fair game as long as you inform your neighbour first, and offer them the trimmings! |
