| | | Both blackthorn? Are these blossom both Blackthorn? They were both photographed at the weekend a few hundred yards from each other but the anther on each seem different colours. I'm assuming they're blackthorn - there were no leaves on the plant yet. Thanks in advance

| | | Re: Both blackthorn? Your first one is definitely Blackthorn, but i think the second is wild cherry/Bird cherry by the shape of blossom and pinkish pollen.

| | | Re: Both blackthorn? First is Blackthorn. Second may be cherry. Are the flowers in pairs. FRom the photo it looks like they are. If so then it is definately cherry but I would not even hazrd a guess as to the species.
Just out of interest, if you get a blackthorn that the leaves come before the flowers ,you have there a Bullace rather than a Blackthorn.
Just thought that someone may be interested.

| | | Re: Both blackthorn? Thanks for the replies, well you learn something every day! Didn't even give Bullace a though, if I saw leaves before flowers I'd have put ut down as a hawthorn!
Here's another pic - the original from which the 2nd pic was cropped, are they in pairs?
