| | | New (Edition) Flora of British Isles - Clive Stace There's a new revised edition of Clive Stace's New Flora of British Isles due for publication on 31st March.
This is currently on various websites for pre-order at £45.00, and £45.99, but at the moment WHSmith (online) are taking pre-orders at £30.40 including post & packing.
Well worth it I think, for anyone into botany.
Regards,
Mike. |

| | | Re: New (Edition) Flora of British Isles - Clive Stace Hi liefus,
As Aeshna5 says, it's the definitive GB botany book.
I think that with your botanical knowledge and contacts, you will soon find that it becomes indispensable to you.
On some sites, the pre-order price is £50.00, so if you're going to get one, now's the chance while Smiths offer is on.
Regards,
Mike. |

Warning - it is NOT a field guide, it is pretty technical.
Thanks for the heads up. |

| | | Re: New (Edition) Flora of British Isles - Clive Stace My new edition arrived on Friday. Having to get used to new families- most of Scrophs have been divided up + relatively new names like Ficaria verna for Lesser Celandine, though a lot of this has been covered in BSBI journals. |

| | | Re: New (Edition) Flora of British Isles - Clive Stace I've only reallly got on with Stace as a part of the interactive flora dvd (which is awesome!) where its easier to look at the associated line drawings from BSBI and the photographs or to chase back through the keys and work out where you went wrong...
I think I need to get more experiance to be able to use it otherwise I get stumped on the 'more or less hairy' type couplets... |

| | | Re: New (Edition) Flora of British Isles - Clive Stace There are loads of changes to names in this book - some are changes back to old names like Common Yellow sedge: Carex viridula ssp oedocarpa becomes Carex demissa again. There are some real mouthfuls like Picris echioides (Bristly Ox-tongue) which becomes Helminthotheca echioides.
My favourite is this one:
Yellow bird's-nest: Monotropa hypopitys becomes Hypopitys monotropa. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
