| | | WaB's 2010 "Plantline" I started a similar thread last year but it sort of got lost, so I thought I'd have another go! We've got plenty of people on here looking, so it should be a decent source of information - it works in the birders' community, after all
Anything you find of interest (native, introduced, garden chuck-out, whatever...), post it & its location on here I'd also greatly appreciate if one of the Moderators would make this a sticky, so it stays at the top of the thread |

| | | Re: WaB's 2010 "Plantline" I'll start it off with a few finds from Friday February 5th; Frenchay Hospital, north Bristol (Gloucestershire) - Entrance Gate C to the hospital grounds, next to Frenchay Common and nature reserve Golden Crocus ( Crocus chrysanthus) - two plants in flower Greater Snowdrop ( Galanthus elwesii) - lots, at bottom of small road by entrance to Frenchay Common Caucasian Snowdrop ( Galanthus caucasicus) - maybe half a dozen, same location as above Winter Aconite ( Eranthis hyemalis) - lots, unmissable around base of beech tree Early Crocus ( Crocus tommasinianus) - lots, in amongst E. hyemalis Balkan Anemone ( Anemone blanda) - only one in flower when I visited, but lots on site and they should rapidly increase over the coming week |

| | | Re: WaB's 2010 "Plantline" davidbr,
Nice idea but is it wise to post locations of species as there are unscrupulous people around who may steal them and destroy habitat, i hasten to add that i don't mean members here, but outsiders looking in to the forum.

| | | Re: WaB's 2010 "Plantline" All I can say on that, really, is it's up to people to use their own judgement. If others choose to keep certain finds a secret, that's their prerogative - I personally wouldn't do the same, but it's ultimately a matter of personal choice.
In any case, I'd expect this thread to be used mainly for aliens and garden escapes, like the species I listed in the opening post. They're all easily available to buy from mail-order catalogues and garden centres, certainly a hell of a lot easier than travelling to north Bristol armed with a shovel |
