| | | Favourite finds in 2009 What plant/flower impressed you most in 2009?
Mine was definitely Saw-wort, a new one for me. I think I was lucky in that the plant I found was a good specimen in full bloom. I have seen more since and almost overlooked them as they were much smaller.
Love the colour, love the netting, love the 'hooks' on the flowers - just love it!! |

| | | Re: Favourite finds in 2009 Hi Jennie/all,
Nice idea for a thread, Jennie!
Mine will have to be my first-ever Lesser Celandine, and Hogweed for the number of insects it seems to attract!
Take care, Jason |

| | | Re: Favourite finds in 2009 Yes, I'm always drawn to hogweed and dandelions for the insects.
My favourite last year was the Green Winged Orchids in my local tiny nature reserve at Corfe Mullen. I missed them the year before, so made sure I saw them last year. The Dorset Wildlife Trust counted them all... approx 7000! |

I had an incredible 2009 but the very best were burnt orchids and field cow-wheat

2009 was a bit of a thin year for me, mainly because the survey work I had was mostly very dull. The highlight is probably a large inland population of Bearded Fescue Vulpia ciliata at Forgemasters Tip, Rotherham. Maybe not the most exciting plant but nationally scarce and with few inland sites. Other interesting species there included Bee Orchid, Yellow-wort, Blue Fleabane, Hare's-foot Clover, Small Toadflax and Common Cudweed. Also the annual visit to the few individuals of Spreading Bellflower Campanula patula in the hedgebank just down the road from me, but I already knew they were there.

| | | Re: Favourite finds in 2009 My favorite find was Pale Butterwort a new flower for me but quiet close to home on Dartmoor.
Also Heath Lobelia not a new flower as had seen it years ago in Sussex but nice to find a locale site in Devon.
