its all greek to me...?

Hello all, deep apologies, I know this should be on another site, but I trust you lot to help if you can before going down WATW.
This tree flower was in greece (as you might have guessed!) and I cant find an ID for it in my med/aegean tree reference books, Polunin etc.
Any suggestions gratefully received.
And besides, we need a shot of sunshine as we go into deepest winter, dont we?

Hi Tiggrx, I should have known you'd be on the ball, I think you are right, the flowers are spot on, but what confused me was a seeming lack of 'notch' at the end of the leaves.
I cant see it being anything else though - it was september and there are usually some old pods on then too, but didnt see any, but thats not conclusive.

we chewed on carob when i was in spain, tasted odd, kind of like rum truffles! i took a couple of seeds back to see if i could grow one indoors. didnt work
