| | | Is there a blue/mauve mallow Today while out without my camera,i saw what looked like a mallow but it was blue, light blue with darker viens ,kinda like common mallow in flower pattern. Also another plant with many flowers heads, which were bluish petals with an orange, yellow centre, looked a little similar to ragwort flowers exept blue petals if i remember correct. Can anyone put some possibles forward .
They were both on waste ground on a restricted access site.

Dont think it was a cranesbill as leaves were wrong, but good suggestion.Im pretty sure it was a blue mallow,as the leaves were right,if not smaller than other mallows ive seen and there were common mallow in the area. |

| | | Re: Is there a blue/mauve mallow Michaelmas-daisy is a garden escape, originating from North America, and there are several species.
By far the commonest one is Aster x salignus, Common Michaelmas-daisy; most plants you find will be this. Narrow-leaved Michaelmas-daisy (Aster lanceolatus) usually has white flowers and Late Michaelmas-daisy (Aster x versicolor) is a darker blue and as the name suggests, flowers later in the season - it was still out last year at Abbey Wood Station, Filton, in mid-November.
Then there's Confused Michaelmas-daisy (Aster novi-belgii); that's the name often given in books for the whole complex, but it's greatly over-recorded for A. x salignus - I've only found it once around Bristol and my impression is it also flowers later, mine were at their best late in October. |
