| | | Figs I am very very surprised at the quality of the fresh figs that i bought at my local Morrison's today they where just like they should be as if they where picked today.... and they where very very ripe. The outer fig was a deep purple and very plump feeling with a syrup leaking from the base of the fig, inside was very juicy and extremely sweet And when bitten into, the fig practically melted in the mouth
Now out of the tray of figs half of them where like this... unfortunatly with a price of 2 figs for £1 i did not buy many. |

| | | Re: Figs They must be imported, I suppose - Figs are well naturalised along the River Avon in Bristol, but I've never seen any ripe fruit on them. Presumably the weather in this country isn't warm enough. |

They ripen in the second year. |

The last 2 years have been terrible down here for figs but still a few of the tree's i know of have had ripe fruit. In good years i have known tree's to have 2 harvests of ripe fruit
But yes these where probably imported but i would be surprised if they had traveled far because once very ripe figs do not last long at all.
Fig tree's need to be cut back a little every few years otherwise they do not fruit so well. |

Figs ripen on the tree once detached from the tree they do not ripen. A fig is not actually a fruit but a flower.
In the proper climate there can be a potential of 2 crops a year from a tree. |
