Two wild plants for ID

I saw these yesterday and can't find an id for them - the white one may not be in full flower yet? There were quite a number of plants and they appeared to have flower spikes but on all the plants only a couple of flowers were open on each spike.

Agree with this.

2 is a garden escape- Soapwort, Saponaria officinalis, that can form large patches. The double-flowered form is not uncommon either.

I've now found both plants and would never have got the Vervain from the picture in my book - and obviously I didn't Somehow I managed to overlook the Soapwort
