advice needed on GPS

I wasn't sure where to put this so I put it here as well as in the General equipment and walking and cycling forums...

anyway, I do a lot of recording for wilts and hamps wildlife trusts and I'm going to buy a GPS so that I can get at least 6-fig OS grid references when I find a plant. Preferably I would love it to work anywhere, rather than in one specific region but I'm aware this might not be possible.

Basically, I'm asking for advice as to which GPS I should buy for a reasonable amount of money (preferably below £100) that I can get my grid references from.

I've used a Garmin E-trex for some years now, and it's an excellent bit of kit.
It's one of the base models in the range, but is ideal for everday use, such as the 6-figure grid references you require (In fact it actually goes to 12 figure grid references!!) I've used it in Africa as well - it's quite easy to set it up to use anywhere - and the price is right too!!

Sound advice from Larachmor, they are light and fit in your pocket and you can pick up a bargain on the auction sites.

I got myself a Garmin ForeTrex 201 from the US via a well known site and its really useful as I can wear it on my wrist when I'm out. Can't remember how much it cost though ......

Garmin Etrex Venture HC - cheap and affordable. Mark waypoints in the form N** **.*** w*** **.***

I also use a Garmin E-trex and have done for a couple of years, easy to set up and use and fairly light on batteries. You can also see what time it is on it, which is great for me as I rarely wear a watch.

I use a Garmin Geko 301. It works fine and is very small, light and under £100 (or it was when I bought mine!).

Any of the big name brands will do the job.

They come up on eBay as so many now have maps and GPS
on phones, and so no longer need separate GPS.

My eTrex (?8 years old) works in UK and Southern Africa!
