| | | Aromatic shrubs, Galloway During a recent visit to the Galloway Forest (Loch Trool area), we saw many tree/shrub growths about 8 to 10 feet high (average), with slender greeny-grey leaves that gave off a strong, pleasant aromatic smell when squeezed or rubbed. They didnt have any flowers and I have had difficulty in identifying them. Anyone know what these might be? They seemed quite common-place in the region we walked through and we spent quite a lot of time rubbing the leaves because the smell was so nice. |

| | | Re: Aromatic shrubs, Galloway welcome to WAB!
I'm sure that would be Bog Myrtle if you were in wet areas, although that height is a bit tall, they are usually more shrubby - but my favourite wild smell, gorgeous oily stuff mmmmmmmhhhh!
Cheers
Ken

| | | Re: Aromatic shrubs, Galloway Thanks for that...I had to guess the height of the shrubs and I'm not very good at guessing; I would say some of the areas were damp, but certainly not all....the day was very hot (actually last Tuesday) and maybe some had dried out. Certainly sounds like you're right, I can't post a good photo unfortunately but will go along with that. |
