well if it's not the common Tufted Vetch, Vicia cracca, I would strongly suspect Vicia villosa (Fodder Vetch)

Could be a milk vetch, or hairy tare Vicia hirsuta.

The flower spike in the background of the first photo definitely looks like tufted vetch .. very, very pretty climber .. I used to grow it up the pergola in my last garden, got a few on the go for my new one

Tufted Vetch Vicia cracca, also occasionally known as Cow Vetch or Bird Vetch, very similar to Hairy Vetch, but is distinguished from the latter by its smooth stem.

I know what you mean Gill . . . . but this:



while it has "purple flowers and mass of flowers" isn't tufted vetch - it's Vicia villosa - some years ago this dominated one area of a hillside here

I think what characters of the calyx I can see of the original images point to cracca, I was just indicating that there are semi-look-alikes . . . and those pale wings are characteristic of fodder vetch

PS it's so unlike hairy vetch I'm confused as to why that was even considered on this thread . . .
