| | | Wildflowers in containers? Good morning all.
I have a small cottage garden and have always tried planting with wildlife in mind. A majority of my plants grow quite tall and I am quickly running out of planting space. Smaller plants tend suffer in my garden because they get over shadowed by the larger plants.
I do have a concrete area at the side of my house and my question is..
Would wildflowers grow quite happily in containers?
Plants I have in mind are Ladies Bedstraw, Birds Foot Trefoil, various Scabious, Sheeps Sorrel etc
I would appreciate any suggestions for wildflowers that could happily be grown in containers.
Thank you. |

| | | Re: Wildflowers in containers? I have Scabious in a container because, like you, I'm running out of space. It came in a wildflower seed mix for butterflies, and all the flowers are doing well, even though I keep forgetting to water them! I'm fairly sure the Lady's Bedstraw would be OK, and possibly the others too.

| | | Re: Wildflowers in containers? Yes, they'll all grow happily in containers, I worked on a wildflower farm a while back, we grew'm as crops in the field for seed suuply and pretty much all of them (200+ species) grew fine in the pots that we sold in the nursery.
We grew them in 'general' compost and trewated them just as you would any other plant.
We only had a problem with a few but they tended to be the seaside/ mountain/ bog specialist plants so just go for it & you'll love the results |

| | | Re: Wildflowers in containers? Thank you, there are some wonderful, 'delicate' looking wildflowers that I would love to have in my garden. There is certainly no harm in trying to grow them. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
