| | | Plant sites in Norfolk I'm heading to Norfolk for a couple of weeks from Saturday, and I was wondering if anyone knew of any specific sites for unusual species in Norfolk & Suffolk (or Cambridgeshire, for that matter...)?
I'm especially thinking about locations for naturalised species (churchyards, that kind of thing), but any & all information will be welcomed
Thanks |

You could research some sites for the Fen Orchid but I think you need permission to see it |

| | | Re: Plant sites in Norfolk The coastal strip Dunwich Cliffs to Sizewell, past Minsmere, has all the shingle sea plants, plus mossy stonecop and Marsh Sow-thistle on the reserve, though that was very poor last year (too much digging out of ditches - which was equally necessary for other reasons).
There is a roadside reserve at (52.24530288393035, 1.5158557891845703). Fordley Rd, Middleton, just to west of railway, that has dyers greenwood and spiny-restharrow - though last year the latter was scarce.
PM me if you're coming my way! |

PM me if you're coming my way! | I'm planning to come as far down as Saxmundham, to have a look at an old relic garden there alongside the railway line, and I seem to remember during my birding days seeing Dittander at Aldeburgh. I'm sure we'll take a look at Minsmere (maybe not the RSPB reserve itself) and there's also supposed to be a colony of Angular Sea-fig on the cliffs nearby.
I don't suppose you know whether the Giant Fennel's still present on the A11 near Mildenhall, do you? Also, my Alien Plants of the British Isles lists Globe Artichoke ( Cynara cardunculus) as "known for more than 30 years" at Bawdsey, and Yellow Hardhead ( Centaurea macrocephala) as "persistent in an abandoned orchard" at Belstead. Would you happen to know anything about either of those, because I've been unable to find any more information? | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
