| | Names to be suggested for a new site please :) I have recently been given permission to record from an area of private land on the side of a hill. It is a rich chalk grassland/scrub and holds many species! I am really happy that the land owner has let me do this and he has even asked me to name the area! So, bring on the suggestions! There is a church nearby as well as the name of the farm - Bentleigh Farm. The field on top of the hill is called Back Drove Field...Any names come from there?

I think I have been able to work out the area you are talking about . . . at the risk of being boring, in respect to the fact that the site will be floristically (and therefore one assumes faunistically) rich due to its long history of not being disturbed, I personally wouldn't want to be so presumptuous as to come up with an name without any reference to current placenames;
so, mundane as it might seem, I would suggest "Bentleigh Bank"
cheers
Chris

| | | Re: Names to be suggested for a new site please :) Not wishing to spoil your idea leifus or dampen your idea but the field may already have a name as recorded on the deeds or old maps. Many farms have names for fields that stretch back into history. If you get a chance to speak to the owner, ask him/her if they have a copy of the deeds or an old boundary map.
Each and every one has its own history and you might be suprised how far back these names can go.
I think it would be a shame to change or introduce a recent name for the sake of modernity if there is one already allocated. |

As for flowers, common twayblades and knapweed broomrape are the most exciting so far Quote:
