| | | Unidentified plant/tree Hello,
Below is a photo of a shrub/tree in my garden which I cannot identify.
From a main trunk about 3 inches in circumference, thinner vertical stems have grown so the plant is now about 12 feet tall.
Thinner branches come off the stems leading to spreads of pointed thin leaves about 4 inches long.
Masses of tiny white flowers with pink centres appear out of the leaves and bloom for about two weeks. In this time the bush is completely covered in bumblebees.
Any help appreciated. Thank you |

| | | Re: Unidentified plant/tree I will make a guess at Prunus laurocerasus - Cherry Laurel. I entered the info from your photograph into this site and it came up with the above nearest match.

| | | Re: Unidentified plant/tree Not sure what it is but it is not Prunus laurocerasus (spikes of white flowers) or Aucuba japonica (brownish flowers) |

| | | Re: Unidentified plant/tree I have been told it is a photinia davidiana and that seems to fit with other images I have looked up.
Thanks for ideas. Al |

| | | Re: Unidentified plant/tree I've lived with one of these in my garden for 17 years and not known what it was. Since this question was raised, I've put a bit more time into trying to establish the species but have to say, not successfully.
Your ID looks right alkynance and checks out with many sites inc. Rogers Trees and Shrubs - Photinia davidiana Tree
The flowers on mine are just opening now and agree it's an ablsolute favourite with Bumblebees.
There's another shrub covered with pinky white flowers which is covered in blossom now and bees are all over that as well.
Thanks for coming up with the answer. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
