Non-flowering Knotweed

These plants, which I'm pretty sure are some kind of knotweed (Persicaria sp.), were growing on a pile of old soil probably resulting from allotment dumping. Obviously at this time of year there's no flowers, but the colour of the leaves is fairly distinctive so hopefully somebody might recognise them.

Sorry but the best I can say is that it is not a Persicaria, they have alternate leaves while your plant has opposite leaves.

A stab in the dark here, but the leaves remind me of a Lysimachia I have in the garden. I have a bronze leaved L. ciliata " firecracker" next to native L. vulgaris., leaves a bit like former.
