| | | Difference Between Grtr Stictchwort and Field ME is there any way to easily distinguish between Greater Stitchwort and Field Mouse Ear. I have never seen Field ME, so it would be a nice thing to see but they look so similar to Greater Stitchwort |

| | | Re: Difference Between Grtr Stictchwort and Field ME Greater Stitchwort leaves are lanceolate, rigid, stalkless and hairless. (Each pair of leaves up the stem is always at right angles to the previous/next pair). The flowers are usually between 20-30mm diam.
Field Mouse-ear leaves are narrow but less lanceolate, and they are downy. The flowers are usually between 12-20mm diam, and the petals are not as deeply bifid as greater stitchwort.

| | | Re: Difference Between Grtr Stictchwort and Field ME Sorry Leifus, that's Common Mouse-ear, Cerastium fontanum ..... though with that less-hairy stem it could be Cerastium fontanum spp. holosteoides. That's NOT an identification though, just a possibility! Cerastium fontanum spp. holosteoides
The photo shown in the link is one that was identified on WAB for me by AlanS in 2007. |
