2 a sedge - young false-fox sedge?
3 a sedge found in very damp peaty soil in the New Forest
4 found in calcareous woodland

2. What habitat was this growing in? It doesn't look like False Fox-sedge. Maybe Prickly Sedge or one of several similar ones.
3. Can't really see enough detail from the picture - but maybe Carnation Sedge |

on calcareous soil
on a roadside verge
in fairly dry conditions
hope that helps
prickly sedge is quite rare isn't it?

Your plant is most likely Grey Sedge ( Carex divulsa) |
