| | | Three for ID This saxifrage was one I found earlier today, growing on rocks in Cheddar village, Somerset. It's probably just London-pride ( Saxifraga x urbium), but something about it just doesn't seem right...
And, while we're about it, hopefully someone can help me clear these two up from last year. The spurge I'd originally ID'd as Broad-leaved Spurge ( Euphorbia platyphyllos), but now I'm having serious doubts, and I'd welcome an opinion as to whether the broomrape is Common or Ivy (it's a xexexexe picture because it was before I got a half-decent camera, and I used to take them all on my mobile phone ) |

I don't think it is Euphorbia platyphyllos either, though I haven't got a better suggestion at the moment. |

| | | Re: Three for ID I see much more ivy broomrape than common broomrape in the places I walk. The photo doesn't show the purple venation in the flowers which is characteristic of ivy broomrape ...ditto any general purple flushing, another feature. And, of course, there is no ivy to be seen! I think it's common broomrape.

This one happens to be S. hirsuta which I came across the other day growing in a mixed colony with what I think was S. x polita. |
