It's them green lines on the "hooded" bit that gives it away. They're quite early, aren't they? I remember seeing a whole field full of them in Wiltshire last year on 14th May.

| | | Re: Orchis Agree. Two green winged, one early purple.
I found some green winged among the early purples at Ampney Down on Monday.
BTW Green-winged orchids are Anacamptis morio these days , unless they've changed it again. Sometimes the English names are more stable than the latin

These have been quite early flowerers for years now. They are on the Lots at Silverdale. I quite like the GWO as they are quite photogenic |

Still - you know what the definition of an "expert" is, don't you?
An "ex-" is a has-been and a "spurt" is a drip under pressure!!!

He says it looks exactly like the one in his Flora of Cumbria. Is it a possibility? |

I don't know what photos you sent him but the ones you have posted above are two classic Anacamptis morio and one classic Orchis mascula. I cannot see why one should have to invoke hybrids here.
All the best

| | | Re: Orchis Thanks Ceterach. Its what I thought at first. The photos I mentioned was the really pale one. I'm chuffed to just find the GW Orchid because we were early this year. We found a really pale one last year, so they are common it that area. | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
