This was by a bare path on chalk downland.

This is common stork's-bill, erodium cicutarium. Note the unequally sized petals, characteristic of the species

Hi, I looked this one up & thought Storksbill but wasn`t brave enough to have ago first In my book it says flowers in June Very early must be the warm weather

yep common storks bill it is. I was surprised to find some the other day as well

There's plenty of it in flower on the North Somerset coast; I didn't think it flowered until at least the middle of May, either

I saw some flowering last week on the Northumberland coast so it is not surprising that it is out this much further south.

Strange that it should be on chalk as it is usually a plant of sandy soils.

It was at the Barton Hills nature reserve, South Beds, which is definitely on chalk. I've searched the internet, and found another photo of it taken there.

'Rose' says inland it flowers on bare waste or arable, and flowers from June to September. Thinking about it, this was within a few feet of an arable field.
