I took this photo of some new growth on a tree. Silly me not to take a photo of the rest of the tree. I was hoping that someone might be able to identify it as I have not seen anything quite like it before.

Hi Julie, is the image taken from your Gallery shots and is it still awaiting approval.
When I click on the thumbnail image I get the "image pending approval" message.

I have moved the photo now and you should be able to view it. I dont find the instructions for photos on the site very easy to understand, but I think I may have sorted it now. |

Hi Julia, the photo loaded but took a while.
Sorry but I don't know what it is. The leaves looked a bit like a Chestnut Tree to me but I'm sure someone on WAB will give you a positive ID shortly.

I think it might be a common ash, Fraxinus excelsior, with particularly striking flowers.
Were the buds black? |

I agree Ash- Fraxinus excelsior...i was just 2 days ago looking at the very same strange growth, i guess i have just never observed ash at this time of year?...
