| | | Violets for ID
I was flowering 13th March I think it is Early wood violet but some of flowers were almost white but no scent and dark spur.
2 was flowering today and I think Hairy violet blunt sepals and no scent
3 Is definitely a white form of Sweet violet with scent but there did not appear to be any purple Sweet Violets just lots of white ones.
Do violets hybridise? They were all growing in same area with dog violet but there seemed to be variations.
Thanks Sylv |

| | | Re: Violets for ID 1. Looks like a form of Sweet Violet to me
2. Yes I agree this is Hairy Violet
3. Yes a white form of Sweet Violet (Viola odorata var. dumetorum)
Violets do hybridise in quite a number of combinations. However, Sweet & Hairy Violets will only hybridize with each other, not with any of the Dog-violet species. |

| | | Re: Violets for ID Thanks Tiggrx for info very interesting I did not realise Ordorata had var. Perhaps I could be a hybrid of Sweet and Hairy as it had no scent. It did look like Sweet violet and the leaves were right unfortunately they were past there best today so will have to check again next year.
