It's actually Red Dead-nettle, Lamium purpureum - a fairly common weed of waste ground, which I suppose is why people don't often realise what an attractive plant it really is 
A similar species, L. maculatum, is after all grown in gardens... |

Crikey!!Thanks for that David,I have seen those in the past but these looked a bit 'prettier'.They really are very attactive,shame they call them 'dead' though!

IMHO I don't think its the red deadnettle. it looks like the spotted deadnettle to me. its a common garden plant |

Well I think they were not so common in East Dorset...don't remember them there!!Only got a small patch of them here!!Still pretty though...and I won't pull them up!

Yes I think it is lamium cultivar seeded itself from someones garden.
