| | | Re: Collins Flower Guide by David Streeter Whatever happened to McLintock and Fitter?
Seriously, if its as good as that one and the other Collins guides, this will be worth getting.
Thanks for letting us know.
Cheers

| | | Re: Collins Flower Guide by David Streeter Mine arrived earlier today.
First impressions are quite favourable. - The book is printed on good quality paper, and despite it's 700+ pages, A5 size, could be carried in the field without too much of a problem. (Only slightly larger, & doesn't weigh too much more than Francis Rose's Wild Flower Key).
There are sections on Horsetails, Clubmosses, Ferns, Conifers, & Flowering Plants (including trees, shrubs, grasses, sedges, rushes, aquatics, etc.).
The main identification section is laid out following a 23 page illustrated "key", and seems quite logical & easy to follow. (Although it could perhaps make casual browsing for an unidentified specimen slightly more difficult).
If I have one small criticism at this stage, it would be some of the illustrations. Somehow they don't seem to be quite on a par with some of those I've seen elsewhere. They aren't bad by any means, but I wouldn't say the best.
Considering that the hardback (£30.00 rrp.) was on offer for pre-publication orders at £20.19 inc. p&p. I think it is worth the money.
Regards

| | | Re: Collins Flower Guide by David Streeter Seeing the names Garrard and Streeter on it make it almost irresistible....but the '...and Europe' in the title is a negative. You can't beat a purely British flora.
....I'll probably end up buying it though. You are looking at England's number one sucker when it comes to books. |
