| | | Deadnettle id/variation in red deadnettle Are these two deadnettles both red deadnettle? If so I'm guessing the variation in red deadnettles is quite large?

| | | Re: Deadnettle id/variation in red deadnettle Yes I think they're both red dead nettle, I think plants under stress tend to turn reddish.
They do vary quite a bit but often seem smallish when compared with other dead nettle species - then of course there's cut-leaved red dead nettle too which as you might expect from the name has more dissect leaves |

| | | Re: Deadnettle id/variation in red deadnettle I think the first is Henbit Deadnettle, Lamium amplexicaule. The other must be Red Deadnettle, L. purpureum.
... as I said to Jack yesterday, the Wildflowers, Plants and Trees forum is one of my new hangouts

| No, they are both Red Dead-nettle.
The bracts below the flowers of Henbit Deadnettle are very distinctive - they are in pairs and look like they encircle the stalk. Sorry but the one you OKed for KeenTeen in another thread wasn't Henbit Dead-nettle either ... |

| | | Re: Deadnettle id/variation in red deadnettle Yep, thanks Dawny! I remember, the Vegetative Plants of the British Isles. I think.
Better start saving the pennies... EDIT: It's the Vegetative Key to the British Flora. Not the Vegetative Plants thing...
