| | [ID] Young Weed Please! Afternoon WAB'ers!
Yep, me again - with more young weeds please!! 12/3/09 Is it bramble... ...or hopefully something different? I already have them... Size: stem 50mm long Habitat: Bare ground, shady corner...
Is it a dead-nettle or thistle, perhaps?
Thanks a lot!!
Take care,
Jason

| | | Re: [ID] Young Weed Please! yup, Geum. Maybe you could compare this one, which is clearer, to the one in one of your earlier weed pleas, where there was some doubt over if the photo was of geum or ground ivy.
Cheers
Sven

| | | Re: [ID] Young Weed Please! well, the vein pattern looks identical - the second picture has wet leaves which may explain why they look darker and different, but I'd say they are the same plant based on that side by side, so both wood avens.

When things are a little more advanced, you're sure to see it flowering somewhere, and it takes root very easily from the runners it sends out. It gives great groun cover, lovely purple flowers and distinctive scent of the leaves - not to everyone's tastes, but I like it a lot. Wood Avens though is lovely too - pretty small yellow flowers, and interesting seed head that can be left through the winter as a tribute to its good work during the summer. Enjoy what you have, its all good.
