| | | Re: [ID] Weed Seedlings Please! Great! Should any of those seedlings be in a more advanced stage of growth by now, given the flowering periods? It's a shaded corner, quite damp, etc.
Thanks Jack |

| | | Re: [ID] Weed Seedlings Please! no its the right time of year. Just given a bit of sun and warmth theyll be in flower. the ivy leaved speedwell only has a small flower so you'll need a good macro lens |

These are the seed leaves, which often/usually bear no resemblance to the leaves of the more mature plant. I don't think it is likely at this stage of growth to be able to identify a plant. There are a few I know, where the seed leaves are quite distinctive, but maybe 90% of seedlings first leaves look more or less like this. Wait a few days, look at the next leaves to emerge and then see what it looks like.
As for the other two - agree with forget me not and geum (edit - although on reflection, it could be ground ivy, but still slightly favour geum)

Will they still flower normally or is the lack of direct sun going to be prohibitive to this?
Do any of these attract any particular insects at all, in any way?

| | | Re: [ID] Weed Seedlings Please! The ivy leaved speedwell is quite a tenacious "weed" so it will flower almost certainly as long as we don't get a freezing spell.
I'm not sure on insects though. The forget me not and avens would be quite popular with bees etc. But the speedwell only has small flowers, so will only entice the small things really hard to photograph |

| | | Re: [ID] Weed Seedlings Please! Excellent! I had visions of the area being being quite empty and wildlife-free on the basis of its shade and size, but it seems that won't really be the case afterall! Thanks Jack |

| | | Re: [ID] Weed Seedlings Please! I am still going with ground ivy for no.2. Googling this plant will come up with these leaves every time. Plus I'm forever trying to eradicate it from my garden!
And they don't look like ivy, KT! | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
