| | | Re: lichen on concrete pipe Hi Oxycera. Well I know next to nothing about lichens, to my shame, but looking at Alan Silverside's site and through the only book I have that covers lichens I would concur with you.
Thanks for highlighting Alan's site, I have bookmarked it

Vince. | from my even more limited knowledge and only book, i too would have said it was Lecanora muralis,
my book says that it is the only Lecanora that has radiating lobes at the margin, which this one does seem to have, |

I have another shot which shows more detail (of a different specimen). I'll upload it later |

Yes, this is definitely Lecanora muralis. In recent years it has become a major colonist of concrete and other artificial substrates and it is one of the species that mimics chewing gum on pavements.
It is not quite the only British Lecanora with radiating lobes at the margin, but the others are all very rare.

Alan | oops !!
having re read the description in my book,
it says "L.muralis is one of the few species, and the only common one, which has radiating lobes at the margin",
lesson one - check your facts before and not after the event | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
