| | | Possible Crocus chrysanthus? I came across this naturalised Crocus plant around the Avon Gorge, Bristol, this morning; the yellow crocii have caused me no end of problems in distinguishing the common C. x stellaris (Yellow Crocus) from C. chrysanthus (Golden Crocus), the one I've really been looking for this Spring.
There's been a lot of false alarms... but this one seems to bear a much closer resemblance to the excellent pictures of C. chrysanthus Tiggrx posted in the Gallery a week or so back. Trouble is, it was only about 50 yards or so away from a blatantly planted clump of C. x stellaris around someone's memorial tree... more wishful thinking on my part?
I'd appreciate some extra opinions before I even consider adding this one to the list The plant I'm hoping might turn out to be a genuine C. chrysanthus And, just for comparison, the planted clump of C. x stellaris nearby... |

| | | Re: Possible Crocus chrysanthus? Yes it is Crocus chrysanthus. It is possible that it is a form of it's hybrid with C. biflorus, but I don't really see any sign of that. |
