| | [ID] Bare ground weedlings... Afternoon all!
Two small weeds found in an area of shaded bare ground in the garden... 02/03/09 About 9 of these growing... About 9mm tall, 8mm wide. One was 13mm across... 02/03/09 Spiky thing Sorry, forgot to take dimensions... quite spiky-looking!

| | | Re: [ID] Bare ground weedlings... they flower pretty soon actually - end of March till April. the cleavers lasts a while but the golden saxifrage only lasts about a month or so |

watch it grow and check it out, beautiful plant if it is !

Nick, you're right; goosegrass is the normally used word for the plant that is also called Cleavers, Galium aparine . It's leaves and seed balls have tiny hooks on them used for seed dispersal and so the name Cleavers is sometimes used.
It also goes by very bizarre names like Loveman and Sticky Willy. It's often called Goosegrass because geese like eating it, though I've read there's a truer Goose Grass than this one, a lawn weed Eleusine indica
