Thistle Trouble

Can anyone help me with these. I have them all labled as Marsh Thistle - Cirsium palustre






First pair were taken at sea level in Gloucestershire, though I can't remember where
The second pair were taken on the Limestone Mendip hills in Somerset.
Put together they don't look like the same species. The first pair don't look right to me.

The first is Welted Thistle (Carduus crispus) and the second is Marsh Thistle (Cirsium palustre).

Me too, recently did a taxonomic collection of Asteraceae so spent many days wandering around getting spiked by these as I frequently forgot to take any gloves to take samples with

i can see why you have
