| | | Cave Fern ID and Wall Rue Possibility I recently went to some caves recently . they had lights installed inside of course and there was moss everywhere. I also saw a fern near inside the entrance to the cave. I have no idea what it is.
Also is this wall rue? |

| | | Re: Cave Fern ID and Wall Rue Possibility If I had to guess at the first one I'd say Black Spleenwort - but it is only a guess based on general size shape etc. and with the other it could be early Wall Rue but it's not really clear enough to be sure.
Which caves were you in?

| | | Re: Cave Fern ID and Wall Rue Possibility Stump Cross caverns they were called up in Craven / Skipton . it was a great day out. It didn't matter that it was bucketing with rain outside because we were underground |

| | | Re: Cave Fern ID and Wall Rue Possibility Is black spleenwort quite an uncommon one then? I agree with your "guess" because it looks similar to the ones in the Gallery (theres only 3!) |

Sylv | sorry. it was very bad quality because I was too close to use flash and it was dark without flash.
I've got another but it probably won't help because its the same quality. |

| | | Re: Cave Fern ID and Wall Rue Possibility Still not sure about the Wall rue could it have been Golden Saxifrage as this grows in wet place. Black Sleenwort is widespread and locally frequent on rocks and walls but commonest in the West quoted from Collins Wild Flowers |

| | | Re: Cave Fern ID and Wall Rue Possibility I think the second could well be Wall-rue, but looking a bit strange because the situation is rather dark. |

| | Re: Cave Fern ID and Wall Rue Possibility As Gypsy Orchid said, the second looks very much like golden saxifrage , Chrysosplenium oppositifolium, a lovely plant, common for this area - always in very damp substrate, but in my experience normally only well shaded, not black caves - was this well lit or near the entrance?
They always brighten up shaded areas with a grand splash of colour!
