Could you please help ID this flower please, the picture was taken on the Beds/Cambs border on the side of a drainage ditch, in heavy clay soil.  |

It looks like a white form of a violet but I don't know which ones are in flower at the moment (although the violas in my garden have a very long flowering period).

it is the white form of either seet violet or early dog violet

Phew.
You guys & gals are quick.
By the time I'd checked my books & got my thoughts together, there were four replies on here.
Didn't dare post a very quick reply as I thought it was a recent photo, and couldn't understand why it would still be in flower.
Anyhow, you have confirmed what I was thinking as the Early Dog Violet should have narrower petals.

Thanks one and all, the wife will be pleased (shes the one into flowers/fungi ). We make a great pair when we're out and about she's scanning at the ground and I'm looking in the trees bet everyone thinks we've had a row. |
