| | | Flower/weed for ID I know this is really obvious and it is so common that I have never even bothered looking for it before, but I can't find out what it is! (I really do need a better book) As a kid I used to know this as clover, but it does not seem to be... |

| | | Re: Flower/weed for ID It's an Oxalis species which many people refer to as 'shamrocks'.
I'm not sure of which species - there are several yellow flowered ones. These can be a bit of a pest - easy enough to pull out in the garden but very difficult to eliminate if they get into plant-pots! Quote:

| | | Re: Flower/weed for ID Agree with Paul, and would like to add that its more or less impossible to eliminate from between paving stones. O. corniculata is supposed to root at the nodes, and the ones I've seen have never done this, not even the ones in flower pots. There are some other characters which separate it from the other small yellow-flowered Oxalis, but from memory they're all pretty tricky.
So not only is it irritating in growing in the wrong places, but it refuses to be identified cleanly! |

| | | Re: Flower/weed for ID Agree with Jenny's ID- indeed very invasive in gardens between paving, beds, shingle, etc. That said it is quite attractive in the right place! |

| | | Re: Flower/weed for ID Thanks for all the replies - much appreciated. I thought it was common enough not to even bother any of you, but I'm glad I did - now I know. |

| | | Re: Flower/weed for ID O. Corniculata is edible and rich in vitamin C so if you need an excuse to try to get rid of it you can always eat it (not in huge quantities though as it contains oxalic acid). Quite pleasant and tangy to chew on. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
