Found this on sand dunes near Alnwick. Any idea what it is?

Found this plant on the edge of the dunes near Alnwick.
Flower is 30mm across, trumpet shaped and 30mm from front to base.
Predominantly pale yellow with purple veining and a deep purple throat.
Plant is approx 400mm high and the leaves are set alternate on the stem.
Leaves and stem are hairy with larger hairs from the leaf ribs.
Very pungent smell almost reminiscent of a cat litter tray, possibly high amonia content.
Seeds seem to grow as a ball in the calyx.

I've never actually seen this but it looks like Henbane - Hyoscyamus niger Pretty rare in this neck of the woods I think?

the whole plant is very poisonous according to my book!

Looks like Henbane to me, too, Gill and as you say it's highly poisonous. A good one for the Gallery, Chris - and welcome to WAB.

Henbane for sure - and not something to eat! But not dangerous if you don't eat or handle it!

Was using Find Flowers online http://www.reticule.co.uk/flora/
But it can be a bit buggy as half the time you end up trying to decide if it's one thing or another lol

Whereabouts near Alnwick, Chris?
Henbane is one of the plants I've wanted to see and photgraph for a while and I'm not too far down the coast.

Just behind a town called longhoughton.
if you drive down from Alnwick into longhoughton you turn right AFTER the bend where it is signposted Boulmer.
it's basically the road before the spar. Drive down past the houses and you will have to drive through a farm yard, its gated so you will have to get out lol.
Continue all the way down to the carparking area and you will see a dune slack area just to the side of a small ravine. there are Blackthorn/ Sloe bushes there. Cant miss the plants.
pity they aren't very nice as the flowers are very pretty

100% positive that is henbane. Lucky find.
