| | | Flowers for ID/confirmation These are a few flowers from a weekend walk. I may have identified some from my books, but they are basic and I could be way off with some.
1. White Bryony?
2. White star shaped flower that has bindweed type leaves
3. Small Balsam?
4. Indian Balsam?
5. Yarrow?
6. Spearmint? Had a very strong mint smell
Thanks |

| | | Re: Flowers for ID/confirmation I think you are right with 4 it's Impatiens parviflora (Small Balsam); it's definitely flowering now.

| | | Re: Flowers for ID/confirmation Agree with your 1,3, 4 + 5 IDs.
The bindweed leaves are indeed that, so it is a Calystegia species with what appears to be an aberrant flower.
The mint is not Spear Mint-wrong shaped leaves/flowers. I suspect it is Apple Mint, Mentha x villosa (Spear Mint is a parent of this) or maybe Round-leaved Mint (the other parent), M. suaveolens. My money is on former. |

| | | Re: Flowers for ID/confirmation 1,3,4,5 are all right. Could 6 be some sort of pepper mint?

| | | Re: Flowers for ID/confirmation Thanks for the replies.
I might try read up on the differences between all the types of mint and then go back and see if I can identify the exact type. I had no idea there were so many different types.
As for the bindweed flower. Here is another angle on the flower:
Is this something that regularly happens to bindweed flowers or is it just something strange that happened to this plant? It only had two flowers and they both looked like this. |

| | | Re: Flowers for ID/confirmation I came across a Large Bindweed with deeply 5-lobed flowers last year: Calystegia silvatica var. quinquepartita (how's that for a mouthful!) |

| | | Re: Flowers for ID/confirmation Thanks Jenny - never heard of that before, but perhaps that is what I found too.
I went back today to take another look, but the flowers have died. There do seem to be some buds, so I will go back again in a few days and take a look again. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
