Just dug out my old book "The Lost Gardens of Heligan" by Tim Smit (a good read, I can recommend it ) The photograph facing p.185 is most definitely the same tree and the caption reads: "The oldest oak in Old Wood shades one of the Georgian Gallops - silent witness to the rise and fall of one of the most mysterious estates in England."
