Chives or Thrift

I found this on Humphrey head in Cumbria.

thrift and chives are known to both grow there but I'm not sure which one this is.

my book shows an illustration of chives that has pale sharp toothed flowers like the photo.


whereas thrift has more rounded petals like:


any ideas

I can't really help other than to say I grow chives at home and they're no longer in flower - maybe wild ones have a different flowering period I don't know - sorry - I'm sure someone here will be able to help

What were the leaves like?

most of the plants were gone over - there was just this one guy left

it didn't really have any leaves as far as I could see

In that case I'd plump for thrift

I'd say it's probably thrift because of the habitat and because the picture looks more like thrift to my eyes
