| | | Irish & Creeping Ladies Tresses Just got back from Scotland after a week trying to avoid the rain. Still the weather meant i could relax a little, rather than zooming around looking for wildlife. After dropping off friends on the east coast i headed to Straphspey for the week, but soon headed west trying to find....SUMMER???? Anyway here are a couple of nice finds:
Creeping Ladies Tresses, photographed in Abernethy Forest.
And this little gem i believe is Irish Ladies Tresses, which i believe is a real scarcity, i found this at the most westerly point of mainland Britain.

| | | Re: Irish & Creeping Ladies Tresses Irish Ladies Tresses are on my 'wanted' list.
I've seen Creeping Ladies Tresses at Abernethy, but also on the path round Loch an Eilean. The biggest population I've seen is in Culbin Forest (but see other forum postings on Culbin!).
Let us know if you see any Summer Ladies Tresses!

| | | Re: Irish & Creeping Ladies Tresses It's a plant not commonly recorded from mainland Scotland being found more commonly on the islands. It would be worth submitting the record to the local recorder. It's not always easy to find their address so perhaps try sending it to the BSBI Scottish Officer - Jim McIntosh
BSBI Scottish Officer,
Royal Botanic Garden,
20A Inverleith Row,
Edinburgh, EH3 5LR
Telephone: 0131 248 2894
E-mail: J.McIntosh@rbge.org.uk
Or if you want if you sent me a grid reference by PM I could send it to a friend of mine - Dr Richard Gulliver who has done a lot of research on Irish Lady's Tresses who I am sure would be interested in the record and would make sure it ends up in the right place.

| | | Re: Irish & Creeping Ladies Tresses Hi thanks to all for your coments Summer Ladies tresses??? wouldn't we all like to find one
Thanks Rob , i'll certainly get a grid reference sorted soon and send it to you, I was thinking, it may be an important find so it's good to know its worth reporting. Unfortunately two of the plants i found were by a footpath and had been trampled i did my best to stake the flowers).
I found 4 in total in a radius of about 20metres. Also in the area i found Frog Orchids last year. I may have to go again next year now, i might find a slipper

| | | Re: Irish & Creeping Ladies Tresses Great shots and nice finds. Both on my wanted list. Creeping does grow in these parts but getting exact info on where is proving rather difficult. I'd have to get myself up north to see the Irish one though! | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
