| | | Re: Flower of the day In grotty Brussels yesterday : so these are bank holiday Monday ones:
First common spotted orchid ( in a spot I've not seen them before: they're spreading slowly despite depredations of Forewstry Commission's road maintenance teams: 2 steps forward, 1 step back)
But FotD was this: bud from a HUGE dog rose ( Rosa canina) which rambles 30 feet up into the branches of a nearby oak .First I've seen here.

I was also in the one spot in the Forest that has Common Butterwort. (the colour didn't come out right though).
Plenty of Sundews & the Bog Asphodels are starting to poke their heads up. |

There is only one known spot on the Forest for Common Butterwort & I think they flower up to about August.
Pale Butterwort is locally common on most of the bogs on the Forest & is in flower until about September. |

the dead one in the background? erm...yeah...thats..erm.....representative of the fickle standards of nature, as one flower is preparing to bloom, another is past its necessary requirements, and the cycle continues, lol
