In Winchester Carthedral Close: bunches of Ivy-leaved Toadflax, one of my favourites.

| | | Re: Flower of the day Found one lovely example of water violet in full bloom yesterday! Sadly other spots I've seen this plant in during previous years are now covered with tall rushes. Anyone know how long water violet seed survives for? If they dig the rushes out will the seed germinate? |

| | | Re: Flower of the day This is my flower of the day - can anyone tell me what it is...?
Seen at Minsmere between Bittern and Island Mere hides, I got stung five times getting that shot and then, as I turned to leave, there was a patch of them NOT surrounded by stinging nettles.
Very small, the flower was about the same size as herb robert but the plant was much lower growing. Here's a wider shot that shows the leaves too...
All help gratefully received.

Dave P. | It is Common Stork's-bill ( Erodium cicutarium) - it is a relative of Herb-Robert so you were on the right track |

| | | Re: Flower of the day AMAZING DAY (16th) Monkey orchids were the highlight...
followed very closely by this lady orchid...
the hybrid between the two...
then common twayblade...
the rare downy-fruited sedge...
Other species recorded were black bryony, chalk milkwort, rough chervil, common gromwell and wild parsnip
brilliant day (and as you can see I'm still getting used to the new lens - although these photos look less sharp than the ones on my computer )
