| | | Re: Flower of the day Lots of Wood Anemones ( A. nemorosa) & quite a few weird-looking spikes of Butterbur ( Petasites vulgaris) out today, as well as some fine plants of Marsh-marigold Caltha palustris, but the Snake's-head Fritillaries Fritillaria meleagris at North Meadow near Cricklade, Wiltshire are at least two, maybe three weeks away from being at their best
Strange, because almost a week or so I found some naturalised specimens in full bloom on the outskirts of Bristol |

| | | Re: Flower of the day A nice, unexpected find this morning whilst I was searching for alien daffodils along the banks of the River Avon, central Bristol... Peach, Prunus persica - something I've never seen before in the UK, even as a planted tree outside of specimens fanned against garden walls! A big thankyou, I guess, to whichever messy so-and-so's in the habit of chucking their peach stones onto the riverbank |

Mike. | I walked the long way home from work to see if my local patch of this was out this evening.
First patch I came to was a large clump in full flower with a coot sitting in the middle of it.
What a great photo opportunity I think. Of course as I am walking home from work I have no camera.
Next clump has a male Mandarin Duck standing just behind it and the third clump - another coot.
Think I shall have to start carrying my camera to work every day with me |

| | | Re: Flower of the day Blimey, you're all seeing much more than I am! It's been fairly quiet everywhere I've been recently. More wood anemones at Stodmarsh yesterday and I got my best ever photos of them (well I think so ) which I'll post in the Gallery later in the week, but I can't pick the same flower two days running so I'll choose the lesser celandine this time...
The thing about these pics is that they make me doubt my ID for the previous photos I uploaded as lesser celandine...
Is this a flower with a lot of variation or was I barking up the wrong tree with my previous uploads?
