More fruit of the day than flower. I found a spike of frog orchid that was very fresh and green as if it had just finished flowering. Either it was late or these things hang around for a long time.

My find for today was Spotted Spurge (Euphorbia maculata) growing as a weed in a garden centre.

Re: Flower of the day

I visited a site very near me and found 11 chiltern gentians with some autumn gentians near by, providing an amazing comparison. The chilterns are just so big!

I assume you mean Crocus nudiflorus, yes?

Interesting; I'd thought they wouldn't be up for another couple of weeks yet. i'll have to get my skates on and decide upon a reliable site for a visit

Yep I do. Seen it in both Oxfordshire and Norfolk over the last week or so.
No sign of our local C. speciosus (Bieberstein's crocus) yet though.

Re: Flower of the day

Two really, neither uncommon. But the mix of colours with Western Gorse and Heather flowering together knocks me out every time.

Re: Flower of the day

Found one of the unusual hieraciums tonight. Fairly large plants, hairy and lots of leaves going up the stem. From notes I have on the site its one of two species, but at the moment I dont know which!

Re: Flower of the day

Very surprised to find a blue fleabane in flower at the local shops today! Never seen it locally around here before. Seen loads up on the north coast and over in the Chilterns, but not Norwich!

Re: Flower of the day

I saw some Lesser Stitchwort still in flower yesterday.

Also saw some Tormentil on Northchurch Common, Herts., which is the nearest to my home that I've ever seen it.

Chicory by the river Thames. I dont consider this plant to be a river plant but there was lots growing by the river in Oxford. Must like it there!

Re: Flower of the day

Still some Common Toadflax in flower along the former M10 in Hertfordshire.

And I saw a Harebell on Bison Hill, Whipsnade, Beds., last week, plus loads of Yellow-wort.

I found Winter Heliotrope in full flower yesterday and today I ripe blackberries and flowers on same stem. Strange year.
