I think it is Marsh Bedstraw ( Galium palustre) but might possibly be Sleder Marsh Bedstraw G. Debile it's got the faintest pinkish hue and is quite delicate in habit.

Bog Asphodels are just starting to flower
Marsh Helleborines are nearly ready to flower. Also saw Pale Butterwort & Pillwort fern. |

| | | Re: Flower of the day Today's flower is Greater Knapweed, Centaurea scabiosa, growing on limestone grassland in Plymouth with Yellow Rattle and Hedge Bedstraw
The Bedstraw, Galium mollugo, is unusual because it is growing in the open, maybe subspecies erectum.

Nice shots there Mike. I'm not sure about the Large Thyme though - it could just be a Wild Thyme which is growing upwards. http://tbn1.google.com/images?q=tbn:...7/50074921.JPG |

I did ponder for a while on that one at the site, but thought Large Thyme because of the plant's size & stature, the very long stamens, and that it didn't have a very strong smell of Thyme when crushed.
Regards
Mike.

Mike. | Isn't it the other way round, i.e. Large Thyme being the strongly scented one? |

Having said that, this was a much taller and more robust plant than I would have expected for ordinary Wild Thyme. (Which I've seen at several local places recently).
So - it's either a somewhat less than normally scented Large Thyme, or it's a very tall Wild Thyme. (I'll have to go back and have a real good look at it).
KT - It was found at Salthill Quarry, Clitheroe.
Regards
Mike.

I'll belatedly have two Flowers Of The Day for yesterday - Common Cow-wheat and Tormentil, the first time I'd seen either. | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
