A mix of correctly IDd (I hope), unsures and possible garden escapes
Hi all,
Went on an eight-mile walk yesterday, covering meadowland, woodland, streams and small villages... here's a selection of what we found.
I'll have to post in two or three sections.
1. Clueless 1
2. Clueless 2
3. Garden escape? 1
4. Garden escape? 2
5. Garden escape? 3
6. Unsure 1
7. Unsure 2
8. Leaf of unsure 2
9. Hedge Bindweed
10. Hedge Bindweed (I believe there are overlapping bracts and there is also an out-of-focus 'heart-shaped' leaf in the top right-hand corner)
Re: A mix of correctly IDd (I hope), unsures and possible garden escapes
for the 1st section:
1. Crow Garlic (Allium vineale)
2. some sort of Orache (Atriplex sp.)
3. Pink-sorrel (Oxalis articulata)
4. Himalayan Honeysuckle (Leycesteria formosa)
5. Elephant's-ears (Bergenia sp.)
6. Bristly Oxtongue (Picris echioides)
7.and8. Elder (Sambucus nigra)
9.and10. Large Bindweed (Calystegia silvatica)
2nd section:
all of your identifications are right except for:
4. this is not Large-flowered Evening-primrose. It is a species of Evening-primrose, but I can't be sure which from the picture. Probably Common Evening-primrose (Oenothera biennis) - which, despite the name, is a less common species.

Re: A mix of correctly IDd (I hope), unsures and possible garden escapes
Fantastic Aaron, thanks once again.
So, please could you tell me which ones are wildflowers, which ones are garden escapes but are now classed as wildflowers, and which ones are just garden escapes?
Re: A mix of correctly IDd (I hope), unsures and possible garden escapes
Native ones are Crow Garlic, Orache, Elder, Agrimony, Common Poppy, Musk Mallow
Tutsan is also a native species, but is more common as a garden escape.
The following are not native but are very well established: Bristly Oxtongue, Large Bindweed, Pineappleweed, Ivy-leaved Toadflax, Common Evening-primrose
The following are garden escapes: Pink-sorrel, Elephant's-ears, Himalayan Honeysuckle, Rose of Sharon
